Grow Your Own!

Don’t have space to garden? The Gardens on Spring Creek manages eight community gardens with 167 plots across the city, including locations at public parks, the Senior Center, and The Gardens itself. Grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers in a securely fenced plot with access to water, compost bins, and shared tools. We can’t wait to share the joy of gardening with you!

Plot Locations

There are eight community gardens in the Community Gardens Program: Buckingham, Edora, English Ranch, The Gardens on Spring Creek, Rogers, Rolland Moore, Senior Center and Twin Silo. There are 167 plots in total.

Each in-ground plot is approximately 150 sq. ft. There are four raised-bed plots at the Senior Center which are 32 sq ft.

One plot per household.

 

Costs

Plot Rental Costs: 

  • An initial, one-time $25 deposit* 

  • An annual $25 fee

*The initial, one-time deposit is rolled over each year. If policies are met, the deposit is returned upon leaving the program.

 

Seasonal Requirements

START OF SEASON: After you have paid and signed the Agreement, you may begin gardening. Spring planting of new annual crops must be started by May 31.

ORIENTATION: All gardeners, new and returning, must attend an orientation every year. 3–4 orientations are offered in the spring (remote and in-person).

END OF SEASON: All plots MUST be cleared of dead annual plant material out by Nov. 15.

WORK HOURS: At least 4 work hours per plot must be completed and reported by Nov. 15 each year.

 

Maintenance Requirements

Gardeners must uphold a high level of maintenance in the gardens. Plots and paths must be tended regularly, be well-weeded and policies must be followed in order to keep your plot.

Gardeners are required to complete 4 work hours per plot per season of providing maintenance such as weeding, mulching, and composting in the community spaces of the gardens.

  • Work hours are reported by completing this form between May and Nov. 15

     

 

Events

The Community Gardens hosts social and educational events each season including spring meet and greets and garden tours. While not required, they are a great way to meet other gardeners and ask your gardening questions!

Fall Cleanups occurin late October/ early November in each community garden. Attendance is optional; however, we encourage everyone to attend to help with this big end-of-season workday.

 

 

Prohibited

It is prohibited to grow cannabis in the Community Gardens.

Other prohibited plants: mint, amaranth, orache, borage, horseradish, hops, Jerusalem artichokes, milkweed, raspberries.

Community Gardens Outreach Program

Do you provide education to under-served populations, schools, or grow food for the Food Bank? Our Outreach Program reserve Community Garden plots for groups serving youth, veterans, people with disabilities, or others in need. Plots are also available for projects that grow food for donation to the Food Bank for Larimer County.
